BUSHWICK LIBRARY
With the stance that a library in this location would need to act as both a highly circulated community center and also as a critical asset for the neighborhood, I investigated the ideas of access and choice through the means of circulation. The strong gestures of the library extend out to the neighborhood while also embracing passersby so that they might use and engage with both the site and the building. The formal language of the project manifested from the original ideas of access; through circulation loops that overlap and weave through each other to create a building porous in nature. The gestures also work at a programmatic level, with the different programmatic spaces dispersed around the building and a central public space open to the street and to the entirety of the building. As a result, visitors are allowed and encouraged to move through and engage with both the building and the site in a variety of ways.
